Parang Salawaki
Parang Salawaki is carved from a single piece
of wood and has a broad upper and lower part. The front of it is rounded or is
slightly V-shaped. The shield in the middle is curved from top to bottom. The
front of this weapon is painted black using soot and plant juice. Not only used
during the wars, Parang Salawaki had some cultural use as well. People gave
this weapon as a marriage gift and used it during the Cakalele or the Hoyla, a
war dance. It is carried in the left hand with another sword in the other hand.
